Days End

When I was getting married to my husband, the night before I was nervous about how my life would change. As we settled into the cabin we were staying in that night, one of my bridesmaids noticed and she took me outside and told me that whenever she felt afraid of what lies ahead and could not settle her mind, she would go out and look into the night sky at the twinkling stars. All the anxiety from the day would fade away into the stillness of the night. So when I drew my subject as a leopard, my colors as black and yellow, and calm all out of a jar, I wondered how I would make a leopard calm also how that would work with black and yellow, that is often a warning in nature. But then I was inspired by the night sky in the North American desert just as the sun sets and I knew I had to paint that. As I made this piece, it reminded me so much of the night before my wedding with my dear fried. To this I day, years into a happy marriage I never regret, I still do this and remember my dear friend. As I painted this piece, it reminded me of that special moment with the leopard stares calmly into the sky, almost sighing as it sits perched on its branch. The perfect way to end a day.
